Walker was born in 1976 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, United States of America. She is an American who has African-American origins. Her parents are Harvey Welker a Native American father, and Julie Welker an African-American mother. She is the daughter of both a Native American father as well as mother who is African American. Walker has completed her studies at the Germantown Friends School (Germantown Region) in Philadelphia where she graduated in 1994. She then went on to Harvard College where she earned an Associate of Arts degree in 1998. Welker is engaged to John Hughes a well-known marketing director at Merck in Philadelphia and the couple has two children. The couple was spotted in 2014 to have an affair. John, John's husband is a year older than him. Due to their relationship being so successful, they decided to take the next level. The month of March 2017 was when they tied the knot.
